The swamps of South Louisiana hold generations of old magic and wild beauty within their dark waters—
but they are also hungry and unforgiving.

And no one understands Bayou Chitta’s appetite more intimately than Hattie Arceneaux. Born of one of its bloodiest tragedies, she has grown into a solitary woman of sorrow, secrets, and silence, made to carry the weight of every horrible myth assigned to her.

Some monsters are created, and some simply exist.
The swamp sees no difference.

Bayou Chitta has endured more than its share of strange happenings and inexplicable violence. The people know Hattie’s life only in fragments, and rumor fills in the gaps. Before long, whispers become screams, fear becomes flames, and Hattie the Hag becomes a legend passed from one generation to the next.

But stories are living things that shift with every telling, reshaping whatever falls into them. Memory bends, suspicion becomes certainty, and with enough time and belief, even the wildest tale can become impossible to separate from the truth.

Blending Southern folklore, pitch-black humor, erotic grotesquerie, and unflinching splatter, The Hag of Bayou Chitta asks what is left when everyone can recite the legend, but the woman beneath it remains unknown—even to herself.

You’re invited to a sleepover where five delightfully deranged women gather each month to share their carefully crafted tales of a serial killer reimagined.

Through shifting voices, inventive forms, and brutal acts of gender-flipped horror, familiar true-crime mythology is pulled apart and rebuilt from the inside out.

These are not tributes, parodies, or easy revenge fantasies, but vicious reimaginings that turn the gaze around and force a closer look at violence, power, and the spectacle people cannot stop consuming.

Darkly funny, vicious, and unflinchingly filthy, this is splatterpunk with claws and lipstick on its teeth.

Jessa Riot is a punk-feminist author of extreme horror, splatterpunk, dark erotica, and transgressive fiction whose work explores the intersection of desire, power, violence, transformation, and the contradictions of human nature. Known for blending visceral horror with emotional depth, Riot’s characters are defined by the contradictions that make them deeply human. She is the author of Father, Forgive Me, The Desecration of Saint Agatha, Triggers and Tiaras, and Sinthesis, among other works. Her fiction fuses beauty and brutality, centering women while examining bodily autonomy, obsession, sexuality, religion, and rage. Drawing inspiration from Southern Gothic traditions, folklore, religious imagery, theatre, and the strange rituals of ordinary life, Riot creates stories that are intimate, unsettling, heartbreaking, and absurd. Influenced by the DIY spirit of Riot Grrrl culture, independent publishing, and grassroots art movements, she remains committed to a hands-on approach to storytelling—creating books, zines, handmade art, and meaningful experiences that prioritize connection over convention. She believes in meeting readers where they are and fostering community through stories, art, and shared experience. Born and raised on the Westbank of New Orleans, Riot has spent most of her life drifting around South Louisiana, where every town seems to have its own ghost stories, saints, sinners, and local legends. She currently lurks somewhere near Baton Rouge with her partner, two children, and their perpetually disheveled Lhasa Apso, Titus Andronicus.
